What you need to know about the UK’s controversial ‘bedroom tax’
In the UK, the bedroom tax has seen more than 500,000 households pay up to £100 a week.
Some households have received a cut of up to 40 per cent of their weekly pay, which is still very low in comparison with other countries in Europe.
The bedroom tax also affects more than half of all households, including those with young children, disabled people and the elderly.
The legislation is not yet in force, but there have been widespread protests against it.
